More About Marianne

Growing up in NYC as a latchkey kid, Marianne absorbed the diverse and creative environments all around her. From fashion to music (a violinist who even had an extra part in Harry Belafonte's hip hop movie 'Beat Street") to being a club kid during the Danceteria days, her eyes were always open to the possibilities and inspiration around her.

Marianne's love of diversity and activist streak led her to become a women's studies major and instructor in college, and then to law school where she clerked at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law Voting Rights Project, and the Department of Justice Civil Rights Division where she worked on the Rodney King civil rights case.

Becoming a trial attorney, Marianne handled complex civil and civil rights matters, in majority part as the protégé of Philip J. Hirschkop (one of the legendary lawyers who won the landmark case of Loving v. Virginia before the Supreme Court of the United States). She was also an adjunct law professor at the American University, Washington College of Law, and the George Washington University Law School.

After retiring from practicing law, Marianne founded her own company coaching high-achieving professionals, with clients including lawyers, tech leaders, award-winning actresses, fashion designers, artists and creatives, and finance gurus.

More About GenXpertise

"You are not here to shrink down to less, but to blossom into more of who you really are." - Oprah Winfrey

The table was set for the creation of GenXpertise around Marianne’s kitchen table in NYC, when she hosted a series of luncheons for friends in 2015 who were changing careers or experiencing unexpected job losses. Over homecooked meals and glasses of wine, they'd brainstorm resume revisions, polish interviewing skills, process emotions that came along with un-fun employment challenges, and find time to laugh. It was an environment where everyone left inspired, elevated, and empowered.

Marianne thought to herself: "how can this concept be scaled to support even more of us?"
And now we can, with technology that can easily & meaningfully connect our community.

With the launch of GenXpertise, Marianne is now putting all her skills, honed over decades, to work on behalf of her generation.

Armed with her uniquely creative eye, over 30 years of combined experience as a lawyer, coach, leader, and entrepreneur, and a deep love for her GenX peers and culture, Marianne is creating a place where we can rise and thrive, together.

Welcome to GenXpertise.

We're so glad you're here.
